Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) was established by Parliament Act No. 4 of 2009 and commenced on September 3, 2010 (GN No 338). It is a statutory organ vested with regulatory, executive, advisory and consultative power of developing and promoting both internal and external trade in Tanzania.
In compliance with article 1.2 of the World Trade Organization's Trade Facilitation Agreement, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, through National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) has developed the portal for trade information which is called Tanzania Trade Portal. The Portal is a web based platform, implemented by TanTrade in partnership with United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA), on which the Government has published trade regulatory information from all government institutions, ministries and agencies which are trade related.
The Portal continues to publish the current trade regulations including but not limited to administrative procedures, institutions to visit, results or outcomes, forms, requirements, licenses, permit, penalties applicable in case of breach, applicable fees, duration of each procedure and laws that justify the procedure and its contents.
The main benefits of the Tanzania Trade Portal are:
o Provide current, potential and other stakeholders with total transparency on rules and procedures pertaining to import, export and transit formalities through detailed, practical and up to date description of steps to go through, as seen from the user’s point of view.
o Facilitate the simplification of procedures by enabling easy identification of unnecessary steps and requirements.
o Reduce the cost, time and effort spent in search of trade information; and,
o Promote public-private dialogue through a shared understanding of rules and procedures.
